Born in Texas. Studied painting at The Art Student League in New York, the Museum School of Fine Arts in Boston and the Accademia de Belli Arti in Florence. Received BFA and MFA at the University of Colorado in Boulder.
After having lived and painted in Mexico for many years, Charles settled in Santa Fe, New Mexico where he took up teaching at the Institute of American Indian Arts. In the past, he also taught at the University of Colorado at Boulder, the University of Colorado at Gunnison and at the Community College in Santa Fe. Charles Furr currently lives on the Main Line outside Philadelphia.
For many years, Charles has been working with watercolor, acrylic, oil and his own invented media. Describing his recent landscape paintings in large format as "narrative/religious," Charles sees them as reflecting the perambulating movements of nature. His dynamic yet detailed works in oil project the currents of a living landscape. The viewers will see the trees dancing in the breeze atop Tuscan hills; will feel the sun shining gloriously, even lovingly, upon on the valley of the village of Monemvasia; and will sense the cool blue sea gleaming against the background of the Monemvasia valley.
Over the years Charles has exhibited in both major and juried shows in and out of the United States - in Mexico City, Dallas, Austin, Santa Fe, Florence and Rome.
